North Island Forklifts (NIF) is a leading provider of forklift sales, leasing, servicing, repairs, transport and materials handling solutions across Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, the Bay of Plenty and throughout the North Island.
With more than 20 years of experience, NIF supplies and supports a wide range of battery electric, petrol/LPG and diesel forklifts, from 1 tonne through to heavy-duty 54 tonne machines. We work with businesses across warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, construction, forestry, ports, transport, agriculture and other industries requiring reliable materials handling equipment.
Our experienced mobile team of diesel mechanics and forklift technicians can service, repair, maintain and rebuild most makes and models of forklift. With mobile servicing and 24/7 emergency forklift callout support, we help customers reduce downtime and keep their operations moving.
NIF also provides forklift transport and machinery relocation services, along with flexible forklift leasing and equipment solutions tailored to each customer's operational requirements.

LEAN
LEAN is a well-recognised management philosophy that was originally developed by Toyota in Japan. We commenced a LEAN management programme at NIF in 2019, which continues to be a work in progress.
LEAN principles are about exposing and solving problems, with the aim of continuous improvement. Our staff are encouraged to always look for new opportunities to get better at what we do.
In order to create a LEAN environment, we have implemented the following key practices:
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for all departments – these are visually displayed and tracked in each department.
Good Communication and Leadership – this is achieved through regular meetings held by all departments and regular staff updates.
Elimination of all types of Waste – these includes unnecessary motion, excess inventory, defects, waiting, transport and re-work.
5S Workplace Organisation – this is done in accordance with the “5S” principles of sort, set in order, shine, standardise and sustain, with safety built in. It creates order, improves safety, reduces searching, reduces waste and highlights where problems lie.
Kanban – this Japanese term describes a system used to standardise and control the supply of parts and consumables throughout the servicing process.
Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) – this means ‘good change’ in Japanese and is a reminder to always strive for continuous improvement in everything we do. This is achieved through weekly “Improvement Groups Meetings” for each department and “Opportunity For Improvement” forms where staff can submit any improvement ideas they have, which are then acted upon by management.
